Urban Decay Review – What’s your Vice?

Shopping addiction? Shoe fixation? Pizza obsession? Do any of these sound familiar? Okay, a moment of truth. We all have that one (two or five) things that we can’t seem to stay away from. There’s a magnetic pull we can’t control and we habitually find ourselves indulging in this activity or food item. Go on, tell me – what’s your vice? Your vice might be a little naughty, but life would be boring if we didn’t inject it with a bit of wickedness every now and again. Urban Decay says it best – feminine, a little dangerous and a lot of fun. I’m sharing three of my vices with you today and by the end of this post, I hope you’ll do the same. Urban Decay Vice Lipsticks (R230) are available in six finishes (and over 100 shades), which are distinguished by the level of sheen, shimmer, and overall coverage. I was sent two of these finishes to try out – cream and sheer shimmer. But they also stock mega mattes, comfort mattes, metallized and sheer.

Vice #1 – Ice Cream

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice-cream. What’s better than a big bowl of creamy, delicious, melt-in-your-mouth ice cream? It doesn’t matter if you’re a strawberry swirl girl or a mint choc chip type of gal, we’re all united by our fondness for this frozen dessert. But who am I to label this sweet treat as a dessert course? I firmly believe that ice-cream can and should be enjoyed at any time of the day. Urban Decay took my ice-cream infatuation and paired it with the prettiest pink shade from their vice lipstick range.

Who doesn’t love PDA’s? If we’re talking about the lipstick than absolutely yes, but if we’re referring to couples making out in public then that’s a resounding no from me. Urban Decay’s Vice lipstick in ‘PDA’ is described as a bright medium-pink with cool undertones. The perfect pink in my opinion. It will leave you dreaming of summer days and spoonfuls of bubblegum-flavored ice cream. This vice lipstick offers you a ‘cream’ finish and glides on smoothly, without tugging at your lips. The colour payout is vivid and opaque – just one swipe delivers intense colour. The Urban Decay Pigment Infusion System gives the formula its super-creamy texture and colour payoff.

Vice #2 – Coffee and Cookies

Some things in life just belong together. Bacon & eggs, peanut butter & jam, Blair Waldorf & Chuck Bass, and of course, coffee & cookies. The best way to kick-start your day is with a hot cup of joe. Black, no sugar, please. But the only thing better than that is pairing that inky brew with a bakery-fresh cookie. A match made in heaven, or bliss as I like to call it. Urban Decay decided that their sheer shimmer ‘Broken’ shade would be the perfect colour to depict my caffeine and cookie craving. I couldn’t agree more.

Broken is a muted, medium coppery-brown with gold micro-shimmer that glides onto your lips with a beautiful wash of colour. This vice finish is sheer but slightly buildable. The ‘sheer shimmer’ formula doesn’t last on your lips as long as the cream formula does, but that’s to be expected, considering the glossier feel. The addition of vitamin C and vitamin E offers your lips an antioxidant kick.

Vice #3 – Wine

My favourite winter shade and my favourite adult beverage are one and the same – wine. I don’t know about you, but I enjoy sipping on a silky smooth red wine over dinner with a friend. A good red wine has a rich, full-bodied flavour, a deep colour and smooth finish. I think the same can be said for the perfect wine-coloured lipstick, and Urban Decay nailed it when they sent over ‘Venom’. This beauty is described as a deep, muted berry with cool undertones. This colour applies easily and seems to last relatively long on my lips (three hours). Even after most of the lipstick has worn off, I’m left with a light stain of colour.

Venom is super opaque and one swipe gives you a rich slick of colour. The cream finish lipsticks don’t feel uncomfortable on your lips, but they do feel slightly heavy – you’re aware that you have a coating of lipstick on your lips. But the addition of aloe vera, jojoba, avocado and babassu oils means your lips will feel nourished and soft, and never dry. They’ve also packed the vice lipsticks with illipe butter, which offers your lips long-lasting moisture. I was also given two Urban Decay lip liners to try and out and all I need to say is that before using them I never really used or liked lip liners. Well, that’s officially changed. These are smoother than smooth.

Now it’s your turn! Down below leave a comment sharing your biggest vice. It can be absolutely anything. One LUCKY reader will win herself an Urban Decay Vice lipstick as well as a matching lip liner. The Urban Decay team will select the shade they think best suits the picked ‘vice’. You won’t be disappointed. There isn’t a shade that I wouldn’t love to own.
