When it comes to mascara we all have a favourite and we all look for different things in a mascara formula. I know they say that diamonds are a girls best friend but somehow I think a good mascara is a bit more believable. What do you look for in a mascara? The search for the perfect mascara is similar to the search for the ultimate pair of heels or the tailor-made jeans that hug your curves in all the right places. It ain’t easy, that’s for sure. I look for one that enhances my lashes by darkening, lengthening, thickening and separating without smudging or smearing. Oi, that’s a tall order! I’m going to share my 3 favourites of the moment that live up to all my expectations. In the photo below you’ll see me wearing one coat of all three.
1. L’Oreal Miss Manga Punky Mascara has already graced the pages of this blog and now she’s back for her encore. I’m besotted, in love, enthralled, bewitched, beguiled and captivated (um, enough adjectives there Chicara?) by this mascara. However, this lash-lover by L’Oreal is a definite hit or miss. You’ll either love it or hate it. As you might have already guessed – I love it. The bristles are short and spiky and the brush is narrow and in one word, weird. Nonetheless, I’m a big fan of the effect Miss Manga gives my lashes. They’re blacker and thicker and I’ve come to realise those are the two main things I look for in a mascara. Tell me more, tell me more. My lashes look defined and extended with a subtle, but still dramatic result. I experience no flaking or smudging and to be frank this is my favourite mascara of the moment. It’s having it’s 15 minutes of fame and might very well end up on my best of 2015 list. 2. Clarins Wonder Perfect Mascara needs to be on your beauty radar if you’re searching for a “lengthening” mascara without all the clumps and lumps. But Wonder Perfect isn’t just about length. It delivers on curl and volume as well. Also worth mentioning is that out of these three mascaras the Clarins one clumps the least after several coats. It feels lightweight on your lashes which means no hard, crispy eyelashes for you! The look is natural with a little kick and the brush itself does a superb job of coating each and every lash. My only gripe is that this mascara stays put. You’re probably thinking that sounds great, what are you on about. Well, it’s a bit of a mission to remove. It has the formula of a waterproof but without actually being waterproof. Grrrr! R265 at Clarins Counters
3. Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect Mascara is not only the latest addition to my makeup bag but it’s also the cheapest of the three. I mentioned her majesty over on my 5 Faves a week or two ago and I can happily report back and say that it’s still a firm favourite. What’s not to love about a budget mascara that actually does the job? The rubber handle on the wand gives you a better grip and makes application easier in my opinion. Who would have thought? This budget beauty lifts, thickens, curls and separates and can easily compete with the best of them. Does it create a false lash effect? Um, no. But who cares? Not me. I can honestly say that no mascara (that promises a false lash effect) has actually lived up to that claim. However, It gives your lashes a bit more pow and wow and that’s enough for me. I’ve now shown you three mascaras and photographed all three on the same day so naturally I had to use something to remove all that black icky mess, right? I thought it would be the perfect time to share my favourite makeup remover/toner/cleanser (of all time). It’s so effective that it makes mascara removal look like the easiest thing in the world. What is this magic potion that I’m talking about? It’s Bioderma’s Sensibio H20 micellar water, of course. I’ve been using and loving this cleansing water for years. If your skin is easily irritated or just plain sensitive then Bioderma’s Sensibio is exactly what you need. My skin feels cleansed and refreshed. This Micellar water is gentle yet potent. It’s as simple as that. Don’t believe me? One bottle of Sensibio H2O is sold every 5 seconds! It’s been praised by every beauty blogger on the planet, and for good reason. R189.95 (250ml) at Dis-Chem.
