My blog wouldn’t be named what it’s named unless I featured lipglosses every now and again. Don’t you agree? These new L’Oreal Infallible Mega Lip Glosses (R139.95) showcase an assortment of finishes. You have your pick of a matte, neon, dazzle, xtreme and cream. I was sent three shades to try out and I was very impressed with two out of the three. Not a bad batting average there, Infallible mega lip glosses. The shades all appear to be super pigmented inside their tubes and the two ‘Xtreme Resist’ colours have a noticeable shimmer/glitter running through them. Is it just me or isn’t always such fun to try out new lip glosses?
According to L’Oreal their formula is enriched with hyaluronic acid and shine colour pigments, leaving lips hydrated with a high level of shine. You can achieve a high gloss look without that awful, off-putting stickiness that is normally part and parcel of the glossy lip life. These infallible glosses sit comfortably on your lips without feeling dry (matte) or sticky (xtreme resist). I’m very fond of the formula, but the thing that sets these glosses apart from others in its price bracket, is the applicator. L’Oreal calls it a lip shaper applicator. The bendy, curved shape hugs and fits perfectly into the contours of your lips. This certainly makes for easy application. Yes, even on thin lips like mine! One side is ideal for packing on the right amount of gloss, while the other side is perfect for defining the outer edges of your lips. The lasting power is what you would expect from a gloss. I wasn’t blown away by extra hours of wear. You can probably expect two to three hours of wear time before you need to reapply. The time might be less if you’ve been eating and drinking, and let’s be honest we are all eating or drinking (or both) every two to three hours. Oh, is that just me? Nevermind then!
So, earlier on I was talking about liking two of these glosses and by now I’m sure you’re waiting with bated breath to find out which two walk away with the title. My absolute favourite is the Xtreme Resist finish in ‘Bulletproof’. This gorgeous classic red applies like a pigmented glossy dream, is shiny like a diamond and feels fabulous on your lips. To be honest I was expecting the same finish from “My Sky is the Limit”. They both form part of the Xtreme Resist collection after all. Alas, this bright pink shade was underwhelming. It’s essentially a clear gloss with a hint of pink. You need multiple layer for it to even show up as pink. But if worn over a pink lipstick this will add all sorts of pretty dimensions to what might have been a flat lip colour.
By now I’m sure you’ve used your amazing powers of deduction to work out that the nude matte shade must be my second favourite. I’m not a nude-lipped, Kylie Jenner-esque girl. Sorry, but I’ll never be. I know my thin lips call for light, soft shades to create the illusion of fullness. But my complexion and features also shout out for bright pops of colour. Besides, those are the colours I like and the colours that make me feel good. At the end of the day that’s all that makeup is supposed to do anyway – make you feel good! The colour ‘Amen’ doesn’t rock my world but that formula certainly does. This is the correct way to do matte lip glosses (um, listen up L.A Girl). It goes on smoothly and evenly. It doesn’t dry down completely matte, doesn’t settle into dry areas/lines and feels exceptionally comfortable on your lips. I need more colours in this formula. Right now!
