We’ve reached day 28 and I’m here to report back on my experience with the #ChangeYourSkin challenge. If you’re currently shaking your head, feeling utterly confused then head on over to this post and read a bit more about the Kiehl’s skin challenge I took up last month. I’m going to share my impressions of all the products I used and of course, a slightly more meticulous review of my two favourites products. This challenge was a variegated assortment of opinions – some exceptional, some uninspiring and unfortunately some substandard.
After the first week of a strict morning and evening routine, I noticed that my skin wasn’t agreeing with all of the products. I was breaking out more than usual. Yes, sometimes new products have that effect, but I actually haven’t experienced that ‘side-effect’ in a while and it’s more than a little bit bothersome. My morning routine utilises the Kiehl’s Dermatologist Solutions™ Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate, the Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avo and the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturizing Cream. My least favourite product is the eye treatment. This rich, creamy eye treatment contains vitamin A, avocado oil and fatty acids, but alas, I’m just not a fan of the consistency. It almost feels drying (ironic, I know) as you’re applying it and sadly it fell short at offering my 30-something-year-old under-eye area any extra help in the way it needs help. However, I think this eye treatment would be ideal for 20 to 25- year olds, who are seeking simple and uncomplicated skincare products.
Sadly, the Kiehl’s Dermatologist Solutions™ Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate (R825) is another product which has left me crestfallen. I haven’t seen any vast improvements in the areas I was hoping to combat – forehead lines and crows feet. I can’t deny that this powerful anti-wrinkle treatment packs a punch with 10.5% pure vitamin C. This one is actually considered a customer favourite on the Kiehl’s website. I’m not going to give up on this one just yet. You can call me stubborn, but I’ll use this concentrate to the last drop and hope for the best.
Now onto one of my favourites – Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturizing Cream (R355). This is simple, unfussy skincare at its finest. This 24-hour daily moisturiser leaves your skin feeling soft, nourished and hydrated. It sinks in quickly and I’ve been thoroughly enjoying it as my everyday moisturiser as well as the final step before foundation application. My skin has felt considerably more hydrated and nourished since using this lightweight cream. I need to add that it’s suitable for all skin types, just in case you’re wondering.
Even though the Kiehl’s Dermatologist Solutions™ Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution (R700), which forms part of my night-time routine, isn’t a front-runner in my books, it is still a superb product and I’ve undoubtedly noticed improvements on my cheeks in terms of pigmentation and dark ‘spots’. I adore the texture/consistency of this serum. It feels ultra-light on your skin and the tiniest bit goes a long way. It settles into your skin quite quickly and has visibly evened out my skin tone. This serum combines Activated C (attacks deep-set dark spots), White Birch Extract (increases skin elasticity levels and collagen production) and Peony Extract (for skin clarity) to create a potent solution. I also think it’s worth mentioning that this product is Silicone-free, paraben-free and fragrance-free.
And now for what (I’m certain) you’ve been waiting for, and probably scrolled all the way down for, the pièce de résistance – the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate (R755). There’s a reason this is rated as one of Kiehl’s top sellers. Two words – instantaneous results. This powerful nighttime facial oil is an elixir containing pure essential oils and distilled botanicals. It’s blended with Evening Primrose, Lavender Essential Oil and Squalane (keeps skin soft and supple), which all contribute to the amazing benefits it offers as well as its divine (and relaxing) scent. I immediately noticed my skin ‘glowing’ after my first application. The MRC plumps up your skin and after a good night’s sleep and a few drops on your face, you’ll wake up with skin that appears younger, softer and radiant. I honestly can’t stop gushing about this facial oil. I apply 2-3 drops onto my fingertips and then I press (not rub) the oil into my face and neck. It takes a few minutes to sink in, but it’s well worth the wait.
I specially went to Edgars Red Square to have a look see at this product. They gave me a couple of samples to Tey before I buy as I have used Lancome for around 6 yrs now.
I loved the face wash it’s really soapy and non drying, the toner feels good and the Midnight recovery well that feels amazing immediately, well in 5min after absorbing. My skin feel as soft as a baby’s bum.
Wish they had given me more to try for at least a week.
My skin is going through a rough change now, dry flakes blotchy and acne that I have never had and I am 42 now.
So question to you which would you recommend lancome or kiehls?
Xx
I haven’t extensively tried Lancome skin care products, so I can’t give you an honest comparison there. But I can say that Kiehl’s have many fabulous products worth trying. Sorry that I can’t be of more help.
I am quite surprised that the eye cream did not work. However, I am running low on a day cream and this product sounds like it is right for me.

Look, the eye cream is lovely IF you’re looking for a simple product to offer your under-eye area a bit of extra hydration. But as a 32 year old woman I also need something for fine lines. 😉
