{I’ve Tried That} ♥ Essence Soo Glow! Highlighter & Soo Blush!

I’ve mentioned as well as reviewed several highlighters on here before, but never a budget one. Well, certainly never one that only costs R53.95. I love the pink tone the Essence ‘bright up your life’ soo glow! highlighter offers. It gives your complexion a beautiful icy light pink shimmer and the formula can be built up and blended in easily. When I first swatched Soo glow I noticed it had a very creamy consistency. It’s supposed to turn to powder on application and while it does just that it still feels somewhat creamy and velvety to me.

The shade is more on the cool side so it definitely suits cool-toned girls like myself. It applies a little less pink than it does in the container, nonetheless it’s still a very pretty ‘icy’ colour. There’s just enough shimmer in the formula to create a dewy/healthy glow without looking like you were playing arts and crafts with your 4-year old niece. The best thing about a highlighter is that it adds dimension to your makeup. You can completely transform how your makeup looks with just a hint of highlighter on the right areas. (cheekbones, brow bones, inner eye duct, cupids bow). If you’re a highlighter newbie then this is the perfect, budget option to get you started. Ready, Set, Glow.

Keep in mind this product does set pretty fast so it’s important to have quick blending fingers. Once dry it lasts for a good 4-5 hours before slowly fading away. It’s pigmented but I noticed that you still need quite a bit of product to achieve the desired effect. It’s very different from all my other powder-based highlighters. Regardless, I’ll still continue to use this as I rather like how it looks against my pale skin.

The soo blush! from Essence (R53.95) essentially has the same consistency as the highlighter. The shade I have ‘sweet as a peach’ is not as pigmented though. It’s a beautiful peach shade that blends beautifully into your cheeks while offering a bit of a fresh glow. If you’re hesitant about wearing bright shades on your face then this budget blush from Essence might be exactly what you’re looking for. These lightweight cream to powder products from Essence are best applied with your fingers. I feel you have more control over the product that way. Both of these are perfect if you’re trying to achieve a fresh, natural makeup look.

You can purchase Essence cosmetics from both Clicks and Dis-Chem.
