There are certain things in life that might shock you – waking up to someone standing over your bed, finding broken glass in your food or seeing a dog walk on two legs. But nothing will shock you into silence quite like the state of my “Currently Testing” area. I call it an area because these products aren’t neatly confined to a drawer or cupboard. Instead, they are scattered throughout the house in complete and utter disarray.
The sad part is that while I’m lucky enough to be sent mountains of products I’m only able to feature a select few on the blog. I do the best that I can, but wistfully, products will always fall through the cracks. I also have this habit of only mentioning products that I’ve enjoyed using. I would rather focus on the positive and disregard the negatives. But it’s important for me to share both types of reviews to keep you, as the reader, informed on the products you should add to your shopping basket or completely avoid. With all this being said I’m going to try my utmost to share “First Impression” posts on a regular basis. That (hopefully) means more content, which in turns means more featured products.
L’Oreal Skin Perfection Micellar Water
We all witnessed the craze and hopefully we all made it safely through the frenzy. The craze that hit the beauty world a few years back. I’m sure you’re all too familiar with the Micellar water craze. It seems that almost every beauty brand has developed their own version and of course L’Oreal also jumped on board. The gentle solution feels as light as water on your skin, but acts like a make-up remover and toner all in one. It doesn’t irritate or agitate sensitive skin. Score! It effectively removes makeup and I’ll happily compare this to the beloved Bioderma variant. My skin feels refreshed, cleansed and fresh after use. It’s alcohol and perfume free as well as hypo-allergenic. R99.95 at Clicks and Dis-Chem.
Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit Oil-Free Cleansing Wipes
The day that cleansing wipes were invented was the day lazy girls across the world rejoiced. I have never, I repeat, I have never only used a facial wipe to remove my makeup. I don’t think there is a makeup wipe on earth that can remove every trace of foundation, concealer, lipstick and mascara. If there is then please immediately send me an email, WhatsApp, SMS, and message via carrier pigeon. These oil-free (yes!) wipes from Neutrogena have a deliciously fruity scent and are nicely saturated. They successfully remove most makeup, but I still double (or triple) cleanse to be safe. The great thing is that my skin feels clean and fresh and no tightness or dryness in sight. However, I do feel a slight tingly sensation after use, which I’m assuming is due to some of the ingredients inside the cleansing formula. I will warn you though that due to the oil-free, blemish busting formula these wipes might be too drying for dry skins. The Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit range helps to eliminate spots and blackheads and contains patented MICROCLEAR® technology that helps break through oil to penetrate the pores. L’Oreal Extraordinary Rebalancing Facial Oil
I’ve been using facial oils for a while now, but I’ve only just started using this new offering from L’Oreal. This rebalancing oil was formulated with a blend of 8 essential oils known for their purifying and soothing properties – namely Green Oregano, Citronella, Melissa, Lemongrass, Clove, Rosemary, Lavender, and Camomile. I’ve used skincare products containing lemon balm (Melissa) before and this essential oil has an amazing ability to soothe your skin due to its antibacterial and antifungal properties. But fantastic ingredients aside, I think it’s only fair that I mention the sensational scent that emanates from this gold and blue bottle. One word – wow. This oil feels light on your skin and leaves it feeling silky soft and smooth. Would you be interested in a full review once I’ve used this oil for a substantial amount of time? R249.95 at Clicks
Vichy Normaderm 3-in-1 Cleanser
I’ll ashamedly admit that I only started using Vichy products for the first time this year. Can you believe it? But now that I’ve been warmly welcomed into the world of Vichy skincare I’ll never look back. Once you pop you can’t stop. The Normaderm range is ideal for naughty skins – those skins that need a time out. My current skin situation can be summed up in one word – hormonal. I’ve been (not-so-silently) suffering from breakouts and recently I almost submitted a ‘desperately seeking’ advert in the classifieds looking for a product that could bust those pesky breakouts. This 3-in-1 cleanser works as a mild exfoliator to unclog pores, as a creamy cleanser to remove impurities and as a mattifying mask to clarify your complexion. I love the consistency of this product and how lovely my skin feels afterwards. Thanks to the combination of Salicylic acid, Glycolic acid and Clay, this is an absolute winner in my book.
