I first spotted these liquid lipstick lovelies at Clicks while I was on holiday in Cape Town during December. I always make a point of stopping at the budget makeup ‘counters’ and Essence is usually my first stop when it comes to modestly-priced makeup. The great thing about liquid lipsticks is that they encompass the best of both worlds – coverage of a lipstick and the shine of a gloss. This Essence range consists of 6 beautiful, very wearable shades. I was sent 06 Make a Statement (dusky brownish pink-based mauve shade) and 04 Show Off! (bright pinky-coral shade) to try out. I’m crazy about both shades, but I’ve been very partial to ‘Make a Statement’.
These Essence liquid lipsticks are superbly opaque and one swipe of the narrow doe foot applicator gives your lips more than enough colour. But I’m not sure if these can appropriately be referred to as liquid lipsticks. To be honest the formula feels more like a heavily pigmented lipgloss. They are a little sticky but not uncomfortably so. These liquid lipstick shades are vivid, apply smoothly (and easily) and in my opinion last on your lips as long as most lipglosses do. I love the simple, clear, true to colour packaging and the comfortable, lightweight feel they have on my lips. These glossy shades pack a punch and don’t break the bank. I definitely recommend picking up one or heck, even all six of these. R47.95 at Clicks/Dis-Chem.
