As a beauty blogger, I’m lucky enough to be sent countless new products to try out and review. However, not all these products make the blog and often get relegated to a forgotten drawer. But when a product excites me or I find myself constantly reaching for it then I always make an effort to post about it. In this case, I’ve been using three products which I’ve thoroughly enjoyed over the last month or so – a Birthday gift, my own purchase and a PR sample.
Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup
Since arriving in South Africa a few months ago, I’ve mentioned Urban Decay numerous times on the blog. Their Naked skin foundation being the latest addition to my growing collection. This foundation has been formulated to offer you a ‘weightless’ and ‘invisible’ feel on your skin, hence the use of the words ‘skin’ and ‘weightless’. The consistency is thin and liquidy, but it doesn’t feel watery. It’s very easy to apply and blend out. While it’s a sheerer, more natural looking formula, it can be built up to light/medium coverage. This foundation dries down to a demi-matte finish and offers more than acceptable blemish coverage. In the pics, I’m only wearing concealer under my eyes, but nowhere else on my face – all thanks to the foundation.
The great thing about the Urban Decay Naked Skin foundation is that it feels comfortable on your skin and doesn’t give you that mask-like appearance, which befalls many foundation brands. Urban Decay’s Naked Skin foundation is said to use “light-diffusing spheres to blur imperfections for a luminous finish”. It’s oil-free, paraben-free, fragrance-free, and contains nourishing ingredients. R550 at the Urban Decay store.
MAC Penultimate Eye Liner
It feels like I’ve been on the hunt for the ‘ultimate’ black eye liner for over two decades. I’ve lost count of the amount of products I’ve tried along the way. During that time I’ve used some fantastic eye liners and sadly, I’ve also used some sub-par eyeliners too. All I’m really asking for is a decent liquid pen-style liner with precision application, full opacity and the blackest of black colour. I don’t want to jinx myself, but I feel like I might have found all that in the Penultimate liner from MAC. The liner tip is firm, but ‘movable’ and helps you achieve a precise upper-lid line or cat eye.
I do believe that pen-style liners are always easier to use, but the Penultimate liner still requires a steady hand and slow, controlled movements. The product is fluid and glides on super easily, offering a perfect black line on your first try. However, you can also quite easily fill in little gaps and turn a black line even blacker. Maybelline Lash Sensational Luscious Mascara
About a month ago I mentioned a mascara on my 5 Favourites Friday and I even went as far as calling it my new favourite mascara. That is not this mascara. It just goes to show how many fantastic mascaras are available on the market and that the ‘work’ of a beauty blogger is never truly done. I’m constantly being introduced to new and wonderful products and often I’ll have a new favourite quickly replace an old one. But, that’s not to say that the other mascara isn’t still fantastic. It is. Okay, let’s start discussing the wonders of the Maybelline Lash Sensational Luscious Mascara. Here’s what Maybelline says about this mascara –“Reveal layers of softer, denser lashes. The unique mascara formula is blended with precious oils. Our Fanning Reservoir Brush envelops lashes with precious oil-infused formula from root-to-tip while fanning out lashes.“
The thing which stands out to me the most about this mascara is how black it is – giving your lashes a deliciously black flick. This mascara is for those ladies who love a bit of drama. The formula allows for a ‘light’ application, but you can also quite easily create thick, full lashes with just two coats. The formula is wet but dries swiftly. I love how this mascara fans out my lashes, lengthens them considerably and turns them black as the night. It needs to be said – Maybelline still makes some of the best mascaras on the market.
