Yes, Christmas might be over but that doesn’t mean some of us aren’t still having a ‘white’ Christmas. In case you didn’t catch my drift I’m talking about my snow white pins. Well, what used to be my snow white limbs. Here in South Africa we celebrate the festive season in Summer time and with all the skirts, small tops and dresses nobody wants super pale skin. Don’t get me wrong though as I don’t advocate sunbathing outside in the hot sun but I’m definitely all for fake tan, especially fake tan that looks natural and even and the opposite of one of Santa’s toys.
I’ve been using the Skinny Tan 7-Day Tanner (R399, 95) for a while now and I figured that the Holiday season would be the perfect time to share my thoughts and experience with the product. Skinny Tan claims to be a salon-quality, self-tanner that instantly bronzes the skin then develops into a deep gorgeous golden brown that lasts for up to 7 days! The first thing you’ll notice when applying this tanner is the scent. This has by far the best scent of any self-tanner I’ve used. It’s a sweet and creamy coconut-y smell that is very pleasing to the senses. Skinny Tan is free from chemical DHA and instead includes a natural DHA that is derived from seeds. It also helps to hydrate and give your skin a natural glow due to the sweet almond oil and sunflower oil it’s formulated with.
This tinted self-tanning lotion doesn’t apply smoothly but don’t let that sway your opinion. The tanner that you apply to your skin is only the colour guide that you wash off after five hours. I was surprised to find that I was left with a very even, healthy colour that could easily pass for a natural tan. If you have very pale skin like mine then don’t be startled if you don’t see any colour after your first application. It took about 2-3 applications before I noticed a big difference in colour. If you like quick, instant results then this might be a bit frustrating. But when I did start to show colour it was not too orange and also not too dark for my skin. As far as cellulite claims go it’s hard to say because I have a lot (eek!) and a tan will always make skin look healthier and tauter. However, the formula does include an ingredient called Guarana, a naturally occurring botanical containing caffeine. Caffeine can have a tightening effect on problem skin.
All in all I think the scent and natural colour of Skinny Tan are what makes this product a winner for me! To find out more about this tanner you can take a look at their Facebook page or follow them on Twitter.
